The difference

This is clinical lymphatic care. Not a spa massage.

Manual lymphatic drainage is a specific medical technique. Done properly it moves lymph fluid through a system that is congested, damaged or recovering from surgery. Done as a relaxation massage, it does very little.

We treat the lymphatic system the way it needs to be treated: assessed first, then a documented protocol using Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Complete Decongestive Therapy and compression, with measurement between sessions so you can see it working.

  • Post-surgical drainage after liposuction, tummy tuck and BBL
  • Primary and secondary lymphedema, including post-cancer
  • Lipedema care and long-term management
  • Compression fitting and home routine you can actually keep up

What to expect

You will always know what the plan is

No open-ended treatment plans. You get an assessment, a written plan, and a way to measure whether it is doing what we hoped.

Visit one

Assessment and first treatment

A full history and physical assessment, an explanation of what is actually happening, and treatment starting the same visit.

The plan

A written plan you can follow

How often we suggest coming in, what you do between visits, and what we will be watching for.

Measured

Measured, not guessed

Limb measurement for swelling, range and strength for injury. If the numbers are not moving, we change the plan.

Why the lymphatic side is different here

Trained where the technique was written

Manual Lymphatic Drainage was developed by Dr. Emil Vodder. Our lymphatic therapist trained in it at the school that carries his name, which is the recognised standard for this work.

Questions

The things people actually ask before booking

Is lymphatic drainage the same as a massage?
No. Manual lymphatic drainage is a specific clinical technique using very light, directional pressure to move lymph fluid toward working lymph nodes. A relaxation massage uses deeper pressure on muscle and does not move lymph. For post-surgical swelling or lymphedema, the difference matters.
Do you direct bill my insurance?
Yes, we direct bill most major insurers where your plan allows it, so most patients pay nothing at the visit. Bring your policy details to your first appointment and we will confirm your coverage before you are treated.
How soon after surgery can I start lymphatic drainage?
It depends on your surgeon's instruction, and we follow it. Many patients are cleared to begin within the first week or two after cosmetic surgery. Bring your post-operative instructions and we will work inside them.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No referral is needed to book physiotherapy or lymphatic drainage with us. Some insurance plans ask for one before they will reimburse, so it is worth checking your policy.
I was in a car accident. Is my treatment covered?
In Alberta, physiotherapy after a motor vehicle accident is generally covered under your automobile insurer's accident benefits. We handle the paperwork so you can start treatment rather than wait on forms.
